Duck and Otter Creeks Partnership
Improving our creeks from yesterday for a better community tomorrow
Our Mission
Duck and Otter Creeks Partnership is dedicated to the mission of promoting human and ecological health through education, protection and restoration of these watersheds with diverse collaborative efforts dedicated to building community stewardship.
Our History
In 1997, members of the Maumee Remedial Action Plan (RAP) Dumps and Landfills Action Group spearheaded an initiative in the Duck and Otter Creeks watersheds. The main objective was to bring together stakeholders in a voluntary partnership to investigate and address environmental issues affecting these watersheds. In April 1999, the Dumps and Landfills Action Group and several other key stakeholders sponsored the Duck and Otter Creeks Stakeholder Summit. The Action Group invited businesses, industries, and governmental agencies with a vested interest in Duck and Otter Creeks to participate in the Summit. Following the Summit, the original stakeholders, along with the support of new partners, began meeting regularly and continued to gain momentum, support, and direction with each meeting. In the winter of 2000 the Duck and Otter Creeks Partnership, Inc. was officially established and the Partnership hired a full-time Watershed Coordinator through a six-year $191,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The University of Toledo's Lake Erie Center offered office space and equipment for the new coordinator. In 2006, the Partnership was awarded a second $99,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to maintain a full-time Watershed Coordinator for an additional three years. The coordinator assists the Partnership with watershed planning, organizational development, public outreach, and project development and implementation. Today, the Partnership is actively seeking new members, contributions and in-kind donations, and new projects to further our mission.
